Fabrication of Mn–Co Alloys Electrodeposited on AISI 430 Ferritic Stainless Steel for SOFC Interconnect Applications

Mn–Co alloys were electroplated on AISI 430 stainless steel using an electrodeposition technique with the aim to reduce oxidation and chromium volatilization. The electroplating parameters designed improve coating quality. increased current density decreased MnSO4 content resulted in a denser layer. A sample coated 0.10 M CoSO4 0.50 at 350 mA cm−2 showed best resistance after being oxidized 800 °C for 90 h. X-ray diffraction (XRD) result revealed that oxide growth surface of samples mainly formed oxides MnCo2O4, MnCr2O4, Cr2O3. volatilization was evaluated by exposing humidified synthetic air 96 mass flux Cr order 10−11 g s−1. Furthermore, different heat treatments O2 CO2 atmospheres compared. Annealing 4 h helped increase density. relationship between porosity its failure behavior also discussed.
